Asean Clean Tourist City Plaque Presented To Bandar Seri Begawan

Bandar Seri Begawan was awarded the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award at the recent ASEAN Tourism Forum 2018 that was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on January 26.

To commemorate this award, a presentation ceremony was held yesterday morning at the Tugu Peringatan Penukaran Nama Brunei Menjadi Bandar Seri Begawan, Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien.

Presenting the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Plaque was Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry Primary Resources and Tourism to the Chairman of the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Board, Haji Ali bin Matyassin. Also in attendance were Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Board Members, officials from the Standard Committee and Technical Committee on Tourism headed by Tourism Development Department.

This award recognises ASEAN tourist cities where cultural, natural and manmade attractions exist. Cities are appraised on several criteria including environmental management, cleanliness, waste management, awareness building regarding environmental protection and cleanliness, green spaces, health and urban safety, security as well as tourism infrastructure and facilities.

Brunei Darussalam also received several other awards during the ASEAN Tousim Forum 2018: the ASEAN Green Hotel Award received by Ulu-Ulu Resort and Radisson Hotel and the ASEAN MICE Venue Award that was presented to Radisson Hotel, V-Plaza Hotel and The Empire Hotel and Country Club.

In preparation for the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2019, Brunei Darussalam as the lead coordinator for the ASEAN Public Toilet Standard will be conducting blind audits to previously graded public toilets in the country.
